“If you have read my previous posts, you saw the new island extension I made. Previously, we had a small, shaky, store-bought rolling island that served its purpose but was never quite right. I brought the new one in, and we got everything transferred over. While I was hauling the old one out, headed for my lumber pile, I had an “Aha!” moment. As you know, I love repurposing things. Looking at the old island, I realized it could make a great finishing station.”
The first obstacle was a broken drawer. The drawer front had completely pulled off—held together by just a couple of pin nails and one dab of glue. I cleaned it up and grabbed my trusty Gorilla Glue and clamps. I got the front glued, lined up, and clamped into place.
The second obstacle was the shakiness. That was a simple fix. I added a couple of 1x4s on the inside and secured them with brad nails.
Now, I have a dedicated place for storing all my finishing supplies and a table to work on. The fact that it also has a small extension is a huge bonus.
I think it turned out really good. The cabinet holds all my stains and polyurethane. The drawer is the new home to rags, brushes and painters tape. Bonus is the fact that this station is the same height as my assembly table.
